What can we say, the photographs speak for themselves! This historic family home directly overlooks the bewitchingly beautiful Hope Cove beach.
This mid-18th century fisherman’s home has been renovated with gorgeous, spacious interiors which sleep up to 6 people.
Fairytale sea views characterise this property; turquoise waters, romantic rock formations and white sands make up the surroundings.
Wonderful bay windows in the kitchen, living room and master bedroom constantly remind guests of their stupendous setting. Guests can spend time staring at the distant calm of pastel fishing boats in summer and enjoying dramatic storms lashing against the cliffs in winter.
The stylish living room is classically decorated with warm creams and a cool, plush slate sofa suite. Guests can kick back, warm up next to the wood burning stove and watch the television or tides. Tracing the fiery sunset over the sea through the fairylight-framed window is an almost otherworldly experience.
The master bedroom is classically fitted with a kingsize beds and bookshelves bursting with novels describing romantic locations akin to the Watch House’s views. Children and friends will be happily accommodated in either the room with bunk beds or the twin room.
A wet-room style bathroom promises spa-like luxury in this holiday home. Guests can gaze at the sea-soaked horizon whilst winding down under a hot shower.
The fully-equipped kitchen is sleek, modern, yet homely with its own toasty wood burning stove, rustic kitchen bench, pine rocking chair and picnic-red tablecloths.
Hope Cove is in the South Hams District of South Huish and is about 5 miles west of Salcombe and south-west of Kingsbridge. The two beaches are split by a small headland, and sheltered by the large westerly headland of Bolt Tail.
Guests can go rock pooling, crabbing, swimming on the picture-perfect beach, or take a walk along the striking South West Coastal Path.
Hope Cove features a charming square of thatched cottages, the cosy Hope & Anchor pub, as well as general amenities and a post office. Local restaurants cater for all tastes, from tapas in Kingsbridge to oysters in Bigbury.
Hope Cove Festival at the end of August attracts flocks of visitors to the seaside village for the old fashioned BBQ feasts, musical concerts and raft races.
The area is also popular for mountain biking, bird watching, fishing, golf, horse riding, sailing, wind surfing and snorkelling. Hope Cove was once a smuggler’s haunt and has witnessed over 30 ship wrecks in its time including that of the ‘San Pedro’ in 1588, a foreign galleon ship wrecked during the botched Spanish Armada’s attempt to invade.
In fact, Hope Cove was the only place where the Spaniards came ashore during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. A number of buildings in South Devon feature old beams salvaged from the wreckage of the Armada.
Historically, the village falls into Outer Hope and Inner Hope, both of which were centres for the local fishing industry.
